breathwork

What is breathwork?
When you discover the power contained within your own breath, life will never be the same again.
This is what happened to me, as well as many, many other people I know.
I always thought that breathwork was something you did when you were feeling anxious, or needed to focus attention.
But it is so much more than that too.

how breathwork changed me forever
Breathwork came into my life when I was at my lowest point. I was grieving the loss of my husband, Nicholas, and I felt like I had nothing to live for. I did everything I could to numb the pain, but nothing worked.
Then I attended a breathwork session and something incredible happened.
For the first time in months I felt a little brighter. My body felt lighter, cleaner. I wasn't 'healed' but something had shifted and I needed to know more.
I took as many opportunities as I could to connect to the power hidden within my own breath.
I attended breathwork sessions, I read books about breathwork, I even studied to become a breathwork facilitator, all because I wanted to experience as much of the breath as I could.
My life changed. I was a different person. My relationship to my grief was different. I no longer saw it as something to run away from, to numb, I saw it as an expression of love. And instead of trying to escape it, I embraced it.
I have experienced the power of breathwork to release pain and emotions that has been carried for years, not just in myself, but also many others. I have seen how it helps people to see through all the lies they have been told and accepted about who they are and where their place in the world is, and really start to understand who they are authentically.
This is why I started Room, to help make as many people as possible connect with the power contained within their own breath.

What to expect from a one to one breathwork
Prior to the session I will ask about any medical conditions that might impact the breathwork. I will also ask if there is a specific issue you would like the session to be based on. You can change this on the day of the session, but this information helps me to prepare a bespoke session.
Sessions take place via Zoom. The link will be sent to you when booking.
Sessions always start with a conversation, to settle you in and make sure you're ready for the breathwork.
We then move into the breathwork itself. We start with a guided relaxation and some gentle breathwork techniques, before moving into deeper breathing techniques.
I will then guide you back and we will have a conversation about your experience, during which you can ask any questions, before the session comes to a close.

How many sessions should I have?
If you're new to breathwork I would suggest starting by booking three sessions. Not only is it more cost effective that way, but it also allows us time to get used to the techniques, start integrating a daily practice that will support our sessions, and to deeply explore the issues that arise.
How much do one to one breathwork sessions cost?
Each session lasts 90 minutes and cost £90. Booking three sessions at the same time is the discounted price of £250.
Do I need to have my camera on during the session?
At the start of the call yes, you will need to have your camera on. I would also recommend that you have your camera on during the breathwork as it allows me to guide you much more closely. However, I know that for those new to breathwork, that can feel uncomfortable, so in these cases you will be welcome to have your camera off.
Is it normal to be nervous about Conscious Connected Breathing?
It's normal to be nervous about anything the first time you do it, especially if it's something far removed from your comfort zone. Conscious Connected Breathing (CCB) is an incredibly powerful tool to help access altered states of awarness, allowing you to connect deeply with your subconscious mind, release negative impacts of past trauma, understand behavioural patterns that have gone unnoticed, find inspiration for something exciting, or even have a deeply spiritual experience. However, you will only go where you are ready to go. That's the magic of the breath. But there are many different types of breathwork that can achieve the same outcomes. During the session you will be in charge. My role is that of a supportive guide.
How should I prepare for my session?
I recommend that you come with an empty stomach, or only have something light to eat beforehand. Have some water to hand and I also recommend a pen and paper, maybe a diary if you have one, to document your experience. Find a place where you will not be disturbed. Let other household members know that you are unavailable and put your phone on silent. You can lie down or sit up for the breathwork, if you lie down I recommend not using a pillow, or just a thin one. It's normal to experience temperature changes during the session so you might want to have a blanket with you too.
What happens after the session?
If possible, allow yourself half an hour or so of silence after your appointment. Spend this time writing, sitting in the garden or some other activity that brings you peace. Make sure you drink plenty of water and eat wholesome food. Also, allow yourself to rest when you need to. When you sleep you might find you have some interesting or unusual dreams. I always advise to document these in the diary with your notes from the session.
